Why are people sedentary?

Updated: Oct 21, 2020

Before diving into the reasons some people unintentionally adopted the sedentary lifestyle, we must first define "sedentary". Sedentary is a person that spends most of their time either lying down, seated, or inactive. This includes those who stand up all day at work, but fail to accumulate a substantial amount of daily steps. Therefore, a sedentary lifestyle refers to people who take fewer than 5,000 steps per day. The general rule of thumb is to take more than 6,000 steps a day.

  1. Athletes, including professional dancers take more than 15,000 steps a day.
